This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi- BOOK REVIEW

Synopsis

To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight. The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he can't put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdom -and the world.

If you love,

- Lost royalty

- Instant attraction

- Slow burn romance

- Enemies to Lovers

- Prophecies

tropes along with a Persian setting infused with mythological aspects, you will love This Woven Kingdom!

I’m not entirely sure how to articulate my thoughts because I’m still thinking of that cliffhanger ending (!!!) but I’m going to try.

I definitely enjoyed this book quite a lot! There were a lot of tropes that are commonly seen in YA fantasy yet this book was unlike any fantasy I’ve read.

It definitely reminded me of some popular fantasy books because of the vibes.

It’s hard to explain what I loved about this book, the story wasn’t very exciting yet it kept me captivated throughout. I think it’s the way Tahereh Mafi writes, it was so beautiful and lyrical, something right out of a Fairytale. Even the most mundane tasks like cleaning and sewing were described in such a beautiful way that you can’t help being interested.

The world building was so well done, I was so impressed!! There was no information dumping and knowing this world felt so natural. There were also little nods to Islamic history which I really loved! The magic in this world is something that I still have lots of questions about but I believe it’s purposefully left that way by the author and makes me even more excited for the future books!

I adored our main character Alizeh and her quiet strength. I felt for her throughout the book, her pain, sufferings and how she learned to survive in this world without anyone to depend on.

Kamran was also a very intriguing character. Getting to know him, his motivations and thoughts was very interesting and I’m very excited to get to know him more!

I also liked the side characters: Hazan, Omid and Miss Huda though I’m still not sure who’s on which side. I do hope we get to see more of them in the future books! AND a certain blue eyed madman who intrigued me to no end (but also, no love triangles PLEASE)

There wasn’t a lot going on plot wise but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book at all. I really liked the way things were going and I was constantly curious of what will happen next.

My advice would be to go in ‘expecting’ a slower pace and you’ll end up enjoying it a lot!

The pace did pick up towards the end of the book which made me read faster and with that ending, I have SO MANY questions!!

One thing that I really, really enjoyed in this book was the romance. It was unexpected in the way that it was executed and very, very romantic and poetic. *My* heart was fluttering at some of the lines!

I’m usually not a fan of insta love trope but what we have here can’t be called that either. It was very unique and something I loved!!

All in all, I would recommend This Woven Kingdom to people who’re in the mood for a fantasy book with a slower pace, beautiful writing, most romantic of the romances and interesting new world with complex characters!

A huge thank you to Harper Collins India for sending me a finished copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
